It's been seven years since we first published a post called "The 5 Ps of Impact Investing." Since then, it's become one of the most popular articles we've ever put out into the universe –– attracting thousands of readers from around the world.
Today we’re heartened to see many people and institutions leaning into the concept of impact investing, as they seek additional tools to support outcomes they are passionate about, such as economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, or health equity. So we thought it might be a helpful moment to revisit this topic and ask ourselves: Are those original "5Ps" still relevant in 2025? How has the landscape changed?
We invite you to read what we learned: check out our newly refreshed and expanded article: The 5Ps of Impact Investing.
IE CEO Jessica Droste Yagan was a featured speaker at the Global Impact Investing Network's (GIIN) West Coast Impact Forum in San Francisco. Her fireside chat with Inherent Group CEO Tony Davis was moderated by GIIN's Amit Bouri and focused on the role of family offices in impact investing.
Jessica writes: "It was so heartening to see a critical mass of the industry is still very much leaning in to move more capital with impact, despite (because of?) the chaos and volatility in the world and markets."
Impact Engine partners with the longstanding Chicago SRI/ESG Group to bring topics on impact investing to interested Chicagoans. On April 24, we co-hosted an event on Employee Ownership, moderated by IE CIO Priya Parrish and featuring Torana Group Managing Director Malini Moraghan and Sayers CEO Chris Callahan, where we highlighted the range of employee ownership structures and opportunities for impact.
IE VP Ander Iruretagoyena writes: "In today's climate, finding bipartisan agreement is quite rare and it was truly refreshing. It was inspiring to see this powerful model move from where it is often found in other industry events, the periphery, to now the main-stage. The highlight? The CEO's insights into the transformative impact of the ESOP structure in their company, especially the positive decrease in turnover rates by upwards of 10 percentage points was particularly impactful."
At this year's Leadership & Society Symposium, hosted by the University of Chicago's Leadership & Society Initiative Symposium (LSI), Priya enjoyed sharing her Impact Investing 101 mini-class with an esteemed group of professionals seeking to explore paths for impact in their next phases of life and careers.
Priya writes: "Jessica and I were joined by Kip Kirkpatrick, co-founder and co-CEO of The Vistria Group, and Amy Francetic, co-founder and Managing Partner of Buoyant Ventures. While many look to serve on non-profit boards or engage in philanthropy, impact investing is another option to contribute to society while utilizing business and finance skills."
LeapFrog, one of our climate-focused PE fund investments, has secured a $50 million commitment from the European Investment Bank. The move is part of a broader $500 million deployment of capital from LeapFrog and partners around the world to scale green tech, transportation, energy, and food across Africa and Asia. “Today’s announcement is an example of public-private partnership at its best, and a strong statement on Europe’s climate leadership," says EIB Group President Nadia Calviño.
